“The Wild woman rises like a Phoenix from the ashes of her life, to become the Heroine of her own Legend.”
- Shikoba
Like the Wheel of the Year, the world continues to turn. It seems like it is turning at a rapid rate. The problem is which way is it turning? For many things, the world is moving forward with some progress like with the Black Lives Matter movement and police reform. It may seem for every step forward; we are dragged two steps back like with women’s rights and potentially reversing Roe vs. Wade. In other areas, we are standing still … mass shootings and gun reform is a good example. What do all of these things have in common? It can be summed up in one word….Power.
Power is a five letter word that contains an impact meaning. According to the Apple Dictionary (2020), the word power means “the ability to do something or act in a particular way.” It goes on to further say, “the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events.” No wonder people are always fighting to obtain or sustain power. Power is one of the driving forces behind change, and at the same time, a force to sustain the current situation. It shows power is more of a complicated word then it appears, especially when it is applied to human matters.
I find it curious when you look at power through numerology. As previously mentioned, power is a five letter word. The number five is in the dead center of the numbers one through nine. This spot makes five the gateway, and a major point of constant continuous change. Five is the master of change as it craves freedom, independence, adventure, and unpredictability. The number five sees everything from an eagle’s point-of-view as it sees everything through clear and fresh eyes. It is the number of experimentations. On the downside, it can be unreliable, directionless, and without commitments. For instance, the Senate really does not want to pass anything that will make a significant difference in gun reform or mass shootings.
Many people feel powerless. Powerless can be described as an overwhelming feeling of helplessness causing people to become depressed, stressed, angry, anxious, and possibly violent. Although not an actual emotion, powerless is a decision based on fears, indecisions, and lack of action. Powerless is a reaction, not a response. There is a difference between a reaction and a response. A reaction is done without thinking. For instance, someone cuts you off in traffic, and you immediately start swearing at them and honking your horn. A response is when you take a moment to step back and look at all the entire situation with clarity. From there, you make a conscious, reasonable decision on what to do next. A reaction is based on fear; while a response is based on clarity.
The truth of the matter is no one can take your power away unless you allow them to. As American Author Alice Walker said, “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” When you react, you are allowing the person(s) and/or situation to take your power away from you. When you respond, you are sustaining your power of yourself and the situation. As Lao Tzu once said, “Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power.” Empowerment is “the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.” (Apple Dictionary) It is the perfect theme for Midsummer.
Whether you call it Midsummer, Summer Solstice, or Litha, this is the time of the year to reclaim your personal power and manifest your dreams! Midsummer celebrates the Sun and the beginning of summer. As a solstice, this is the longest day of the year. The sun is a fiery sky ball symbolizing growth, prosperity, knowledge, life force, passion, empowerment, power, and the light. As a creature of fire, the Phoenix contains all of these qualities, and so much more! This is the perfect creature to honor at Midsummer. The Sun Gods Helios, Ra, Surya, Lugh, and many other Sun Gods are honored during this time. Although the Sun is usually considered to be male, it does have its female qualities, and can be honored by many different fire Goddesses including Hecate and Brigid.
Evermoving We Rise Midsummer Ritual will involve taking back your personal power, and lighting your passion drive to ignite and bring to life your dreams! Our ritual will be on June 19, 2022 at 8 pm Eastern Standard Time. The zoom room information is here:
